The Future of Handicrafts

Conference on what crafts is becoming

As part of the Horizon Europe Tracks4Crafts project, co-financed by the European Union, Artex invited the European Training Foundation for a moment of debate on the skills of the future in the artistic crafts sector, a round table involving local authorities, experts and internationally renowned professionals in the field of Made in Italy. Starting from the publication “Crafting the future: Five Squared” we ask ourselves: can the craft sector contribute significantly to providing income and work opportunities for individuals, families and entire communities around the world? Food Challenge - Contest 9

Fruit tart

The food challenge is an annual contest in which chefs, pastry chefs, bakers, and pizza makers compete to create traditional dishes that are most faithful to the Florentine wine and food tradition. 12 challenges are organised every year, and each one is dedicated to a typical dish – from castagnaccio (chestnut cake) to francesina (Tuscany’s leftover beef recipe), not to mention focaccias and first courses based on game sauce.

Each challenge becomes an event to celebrate the Florence culture and cuisine, with judges rating dishes not only for their taste, but also for their genuineness and their adherence to tradition.
